Annual Veterans’ Day Celebration in Kensington
Saturday, November 11, 2017 is the date for Kensington’s Annual Veterans’ Day festivities. All are invited and welcome to attend this celebration in Kensington!
The theme for this year is “Our Country, Our Flag” with Plainville native, Senator Jerry Moran, as the special guest speaker.
Starting at 9:00am, the women of the American Legion Auxiliary will host the pie stand at the Vo-Ag building on Kansas Street, across from the high school. There will be various, delicious pies for sale by the slice and paper poppies for sale too. The Auxiliary women will Raffle a quilt and other Americana items; tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.
Legion members are also be holding a Raffle for items including: Marlin XT-17 VR .17 HMR plus one box of ammo; Colt 1911 .45 ACP plus one box of ammo; Browning BPS 12 Gauge plus one box of ammo. Several consolation prizes to be awarded after the firearms. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. Need NOT be present to win guns or quilt but MUST BE PRESENT to win the consolation prizes. Raffle Prizes to be announced at the Legion Hall at 9:00pm.
At 11:00am, special guest Jerry Moran will speak with prayer and parade to commence afterward. Mr. Moran and the parade will be broadcast on the KKAN KQMA 92.5 FM Phillipsburg radio station. The FREE BBQ is to follow after the parade, beginning at approximately 12:00pm/noon. {Please be sure to bring your own containers and tableware; only food will be provided.}
At 1:00pm a Flag Retirement and Disposal Ceremony will be held in the empty lot across from the legion. If you have never attended before, this is an amazing event to witness.
From 9am to 2pm is the Scholastic Book Fair at the Kensington Library. Please stop in for our special *Family Event during the Veterans’ Day festivities from 9am-2pm.
At 9:00pm, there will be a Dance at the Legion Hall and here all Raffle Prizes will be announced. Need not be present to win the guns or quilt, but MUST BE PRESENT to win the consolation prizes as they will be announced periodically during the dance. Ed Bridwell will provide music entertainment for the dance from 9pm-1pm at the Legion Hall.
Return/stick around for the Lions Club Pancake Feed Sunday morning, November 12. The Lions Club will be serving pancakes from 6am to 1pm.
Veterans’ Day Music Program
Help Us Honor Our Veterans- Please join us at the Thunder Ridge Middle School Auditorium in Agra on Friday, November 10th at 2:15pm for a special, patriotic program. Thunder Ridge music director, Mrs. Reneberg, and grades K-8th have been working hard to prepare this wonderful collaboration of music to be held in honor of our Veterans. A short reception will follow. Plan to attend this Friday afternoon at 2:15pm in the TRMS auditorium at Agra.

The Scholastic Book Fair is here! Each Fall, a Scholastic Book Fair is held at the Kensington Library with a special Family Event during the Veterans’ Day Celebration in November. The book fair is now open for sales through Sat. 11th. Hours include: Wednesday 8th 8am-4pm, Thursday 9th and Friday 10th from 8am-5pm and Saturday 11th 9am-2pm. Please stop in from 9am to 2pm on Saturday, November 11th for our special *Family Event during the Veterans’ Day festivities.
Upcoming Games:
TRMS Basketball began with the first games of the season on Tuesday, November 7th. They play again on Thursday, Nov. 9, at home vs Osborne starting at 4pm in Agra.
Nine members of the Thunder Ridge High School KAY Club attended the Area IV KAY Regional Conference on Thursday, November 2nd at the Huck Boyd Center in Phillipsburg. The Club received the Gold Award, recognizing their student leadership and service to their school, community, nation and world for the 2016-2017 school year.
The Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a character-building, leadership training program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. This nationally acclaimed organization provides students an opportunity to learn to assume their citizenship responsibilities and to enrich their personalities through well organized programs. These programs emphasize four areas of service: school, community, nation and world.
The theme for the 2017 Regional Conference was "Set Sail... LEAD-YER-SHIP"! This conference affords opportunities for student leaders and sponsors from neighboring clubs to share successes and challenges, as well as exchange ideas. Sessions in leadership training and organizational skills are also offered. These conferences inspire delegates to return to their clubs to challenge their local members. Local KAY members attending the Regional Conference were: Kennedy Rietkze, Raegan Boden, Wysteria Corbett, Leah Bienhoff, Layne Pettijohn, Maggie Nech, Jaden Boden, Brittany Atchison, and Iva Rust. Accompanying the group was Kathi Boden, the club's co-sponsor.

Kensington Library News
Winners of our Pumpkin Decorating Contest, which were chosen on Halloween Day, included: Conner Molzahn’s “Fly Guy” was Most Creative, Aadyn Blank’s “Click, Clack Moo” was Silliest, and KensLy Blank’s “Charlotte’s Web” was Cutest. Library patrons enjoyed the creative works and the kids had fun decorating these awesome storybook pumpkins. Everyone did a fantastic job.
