Thunder Ridge Students Give Back

Monday, October 12 was a scheduled Community Clean-up day organized by Denise Miller’s Adult Living Class. The students worked together to create plans and make up teams of students to complete tasks and projects to give back and clean-up Kensington. Some tasks such as sweeping sidewalks, painting parking spot lines, picking up trash, weeding the sidewalks, and taking inventory at the American Legion. Bigger projects included painting a storage unit, painting 3 houses, laying concrete, placing bricks in the memorial garden on Main Street, washing fire trucks, and tearing down/removal of an old building. These jobs, no matter how big or small, took weeks of careful planning and thought, organizing and collecting tools/supplies. Huge thanks to the Thunder Ridge students and staff for all their efforts and hard work. Also, thank you to Heartland Worship Center, Kensington Lockers, Teens for Christ for providing snacks and drinks, and the Lions Club for their generous donation. Special recognition to Denise Miller and her Adult Living Class, Seniors: Anthony Bouchard, Seth Brown, Jonathan Ferguson, Mya Hoersdig, Kylie Reimer, Mary Jo Shook; Sophomores: Zach Barnes, Cody Jurey, Bryce Kelley, Jesslinn Moore.

Students also helped with the successful fundraiser for the Kensington Community Store held a few weeks ago. It’s wonderful to see the youth active and involved in giving back to their community.

Lions October Meeting

October was education month so TR’s librarian, Erica Barnes, spoke to the club about our local community/school library. It was a surprise that there are not very many libraries that are shared between a community and school. This partnership is quite a blessing to both the community and school because it allows for the expenses to be shared. Erica also brought a historical scrapbook that showed memories of the library throughout the years. The club really enjoyed hearing the history and facts Erica shared with them.

Other business items discussed were Veterans’  Day and the community clean-up. Plans have been made by the legion to hold the traditional celebration. The lions will also hold their annual pancake feed that Sunday. More details to come as to how that will look. A donation was given to help Mrs. Miller with expenses as she organizes the high school with community projects.

Their next meeting will be November 2, at 7:00. Join us if you’d like to serve your community!

Mat Makers

The next get together for Mat Makers will be this Saturday, October 17, from 9-noon. This is at St John Lutheran’s parish hall. Join us if you can!! Everyone is welcome to help at any time!
