Veterans Day Celebration in Kensington
This Saturday, November 9, Kensington is the place to be. The theme for our celebration this year is: “In Memory of Many, and In Honor of All.”
From 9:00am to 2:00pm visit the Kensington Community/School Library for the PaperPie Learning Book Fair. Tons of terrific books and educational materials for children ages toddler through high school. Books make the best Christmas presents!
From 9:00am to 3:00pm visit the Fall Harvest Craft Fair at the American Legion. Numerous vendors and a concession stand provided, plus door prizes too!
Also starting at 9:00am, the pie stand can be found in the TRHS Vo-Ag building. Located East of the Thunder Ridge High School, north of the football field.
The Honorary speaker this year is Charles Griffith, SFC retired combat medic. He will give an address at 11:00am with the parade to follow down main street starting at 11:15am.
Be sure to bring tupperware or pans for the FREE BBQ to follow at noon/12:00pm. Beef sandwiches and beans are provided for a FREE WILL DONATION.
Travel south of town for a trap shoot to take place at 2:00pm in the afternoon.
Several raffles are being provided by the SALS and Legion Auxiliary ladies. Be sure to buy some tickets! Winners will be announced later that night at the American Legion.
Lions Club Pancake Feed
Sunday morning, November 10, join us for pancakes in the Legion hall starting at 6:00am. Come have breakfast, brunch or pancakes for lunch! We look forward to serving you.
Kaydence Dodds and Leanka van der Linden, first time donors at the KAY blood drive, give each other a little support! Thanks to everyone who supported the drive!
SOLES 4 SOULS
KAYS is hosting a shoe and clothing drive for Soles4Souls organization as their world service project. The group will collect items from October 23-December 4. There will be collection boxes at KSC, the elementary/middle/high schools, as well as the local churches, including at TFC.
Here is what Soles4Souls says about collecting items: Soles4Souls only accepts shoes and clothing that are new and gently used. Gently used means no obvious or significant wear and tear, no holes, no mud or excessive staining, or items with broken/missing parts.
Items collected will be shipped free of charge to the organization. They, in turn, offer the items to people trying to create and sustain small businesses. The trifold effect is: Education: there is an 87% improved quality education and regular attendance for their children; Leadership: 80% assumed at least one community leadership role; Health: 92% improved family health and nutrition. They help turn clothing and shoes into opportunities!
