K-TOWN KATES

K-Town Kates hosted the annual tea with the Home on the Range Club on Monday, April 10, 2023 at the north St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kensington at 6:00 p.m. Donna Westbrook welcomed members and their guests. JoAnn Rice gave the invocation followed by a delicious salad luncheon. Loretta Struik, the spring tea chairman, emceed the program. The Kansas History theme was carried out by beautiful yellow sunflower/blue daisy floral centerpieces and sunflower ornaments as favors – all created by Loretta. After she introduced Amy Adams, Music Instructor and Kristi Reneberg, Accompanist, students from Thunderridge High School performed their instrumental and vocal solos that they will present at the contest. After this special music, “An Evening with Abigail” was performed by Carla Dettmer. Abigail was the wife of Lyman T. Earl who along with Hyman Bull was the cofounder of Bull City in 1870. The flip of a coin determined the city’s name, which later became Alton, Kansas. Carla, dressed in 1870’s attire, included interesting stories about these people and presented Kansas History and facts. The entertaining presentation ended with singing the Kansas song - Home on the Range. After several games and door prizes, Loretta brought the evening to a close with the singing of God Bless America – a most enjoyable evening!
