Athol Homecoming Get-Together Planned for May 30, 2021
Plans are being made to have another bi-annual Athol Community Open House on Memorial Weekend. The Athol Community Hall will be open on Sunday afternoon, May 30, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm with refreshments being served. This will be a time for visiting together and to admire the Community Hall for those from a distance who haven’t seen it for many years.
There will be a program at 3:00 pm for introductions and a time to share memories of Athol. A special memorial service will be held at that time for former Athol students and community members who have passed away since the last get-together in 2019. ElDean Holthus will be explaining his efforts towards getting the Athol Community Hall on the Kansas Historical Registry.
This get-together is not just for Athol alumni graduates. Everyone with Athol ties is welcome to attend.
The last Athol High School Graduating Class was in 1955. Those graduates are 83 years or older. There are several of those graduates who are making plans to attend. Athol Grade School closed in 1966, which former graduate Kathy Shockley Pierce noted is 55 years ago. That group of students are 68 years and older.
Former Athol Grade School students Donna Johnson (476-2691), Dianna Rice (695-2399), Athol High School Alumni Elzene Panter Kirchhoff (1949) and Athol’s historical legend Betty Panter Smith (1946) are working together to plan this event. They can be contacted for more information. We hope this will give everyone with Athol ties a chance to see the Community Hall again and catch up with former Athol residents, Athol High School and Grade School graduates. Mark your calendars for Sunday May 30 from 2-4 pm to reconnect with your Athol friends. Please consider this your invitation to attend.

Mother/Daughter Tea
St. John Lutheran Church was happy to hold their annual tea this year. They had planned last year to have Mary and Stephanie Arment share about their mother/daughter trip, but Covid put a pause on that plan! However, this year, the ladies were able to share their photos and stories with the group. It was fun to hear about their trip together and to learn about Iceland.
After the presentation, the group enjoyed a variety of desserts. It was a great starter to celebrating Mother’s Day!
Kensington Lions Recognized
The District K Lions Convention was held this past weekend in Hays. Members Darold and Joyce Grauerholz and Robin Billings
were able to attend and represent the Kensington club. The club was honored with a plaque for inducting the most new members in the middle- sized club category this year.
