Ktown Kates Met

The August 21, 2020 meeting for the Ktown Kates was a trip to Holdrege, Ne to the Nebraska Prairie Museum. After eating an early lunch at Country Cookin’, the 7 members enjoyed the over one acre of indoor exhibits, which included period clothing, antique toys including an operating train, farm equipment, carriages, household goods of every kind, rooms representing dentist’s office, doctor’s office, train depot, jailhouse, kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms, and more, and an entire wing dedicated to the WWII POW camp once located there. Seperate from the museum were a church, one room schoolhouse, and a furnished home from an earlier era. The consensus was that there was too much to see in one afternoon! The Ktown Kates then had an afternoon treat at Runza followed by a brief meeting.

Doris opened the business meeting with roll call answered by the 7 members with any instrument they played. The June minutes were read and a treasurer’s report was given and approved.

Georgetta reported that 18 families and single units participated in the August food pantry and a donation had been made and was appreciated.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, Kensington’s Old Fashioned Saturday Night was cancelled; therefore the Ktown Kates did not have the pie and cookies stand.

September 14 will be the next meeting. Melsissa Westbrook, originally scheduled for November, will do the presentation for September, and Genny Rahjes will do the presentation of November. Guests are welcomed to attend. Ideas for trips for the future were the Kearney Great Platte River Road Archway and also the Nebraska’s Firefighter Museum located nearby; the Decatur County Last Indian Raid Museum in Oberlin Ks; Fort Bissel in Phillipsburg; and a return to the Nebraska Prairie Museum.

Additional workers for the THIRD Saturday of the month food pantry, SEPTEMBER 19 are Carmen and Ijean.

Meeting adjourned.
